5/7 Interview of Federer ahead of Madrid 2019

Roger 1090 days since the last match on clay. look like you'd never been away.

 

Roger Federer

well thank you I mean I think it was a good match look I thought definitely.

it's nice to be back on the clay, I'm happy to be here, it's been a long time, (I) can't believe it's been that many days.

but look it hasn't felt like I've been that long away you know because practice had been going really well the last few weeks.

and it's given me a lift also to know that I can play on this surface still.

and of course I grew up on this surface so I feel comfortable.

but you know I think Richard also was a little bit hurting maybe still from his match yesterday. so it was nice seeing him back here after so many months being away from the tour with injury. so I think for both of us it was a special special match back here in Madrid.

 

Interviewer:

what about that reception you received from the crowd I hear in Madrid today.

 

Roger Federer:

great it's been wonderful I've been, I mean, I think here always in Spain I've been well received, you know, over the last decade or so just because of my rivalry with Rafa and all the other Spanish players like Ferrer and so forth? you know so the people really know me that followed my matches closely for so many years, they heard me speak and they feel like they kind of know me and so then when I come to their market you know I think they appreciate it and so do I you know full house(満員) special atmosphere so I appreciate it.
